Fishing Mafia Island

Born and raised on Mafia Island, Captain Ally found his passion for fishing at an early age in life. Ally left Mafia for 6 months to study in South Africa. On is return he progressed to become Mafia Islands most talked about fishing Captain.

Captain Ally understands fish, and this has resulted in many a beast being tamed under his watch. He has certainly proven his skills in a short period of time when it comes to finding those extra size GT’s which prowl the reefs of Mafia, hungry to battle the next of Captain Ally’s angling warriors.

Ally is not only a wizard on the water, but also a very interesting social experience throughout your trip. Having grown up on the island, Ally will explain the workings of Mafia and keep you entertained for days with his “Allyisms” allowing you a glimpse through his eyes at a different world.

Ally is happy if he is fishing, no matter the species his clients wish to target or the methods by which they choose to pursue their opponents. He has a strict catch and release rule regarding certain species and will let you know what can be taken back for the pot. Otherwise he is happy to show you his methods or let you use your own. Ally has catered for all levels of angler, from the first timer through to some of the most focused anglers the sport has to offer. Families and groups are most welcome.

Boats:

Chachungi 30ft Fully rigged for trolling. Front and back deck space for popping and jigging (Angler must provide own equipment). Able to comfortably reach the outer reefs. Up to 5 trolling anglers. Can accommodate 3 popping/jigging anglers.

This beautiful island cluster takes its name from the Arabic “morfiyeh”, meaning “group” or “archipelago”, or alternatively (and we like this one more) from the Ki-Swahili "mahali pa afya", meaning "a healthy dwelling-place". The Mafia island is home to just over 40,000 people.

Mafia is not just about stunning natural beauty. The island has a very rich history, going back to at least the 8th century. The island used to play a major role in trade between the ancient people of the Far East and mainland Africa. Boats carrying goods to and from the Persian empire would regularly stop here. A settlement on the tiny island of Chole Mjini, just offshore in Chole Bay, controlled trade from the silver mines of Eastern Zimbabwe, which reached the settlement via the old ports of Kilwa and Michangani.

Watch the morning sun glint on the turquoise surface of the Indian Ocean from your bungalow as whalesharks come to rest and feed.
